Tato kniha je směsicí tradičních a současných melodií z repertoáru skotských akordeonistů. Zkoumá běžné typy melodií hrané ve Skotsku, tj. Jig, naviják, strathspey, pomalý vzduch, valčík, pochod a polka. Některé melodie jsou uspořádány v tradičním stylu taneční hudby, kde jiné byly nastaveny s modernějším dojmem, jak je používá autor a mnoho „new age“ skotských akordeonistů. Velký důraz byl kladen na použití levé ruky ke zlepšení stylu a uspořádání. Ian Lowthian byl vychován ponořený do skotské akordeonové tradice; je absolventem Královské hudební akademie, který se po odchodu soustředil hlavně na tradiční hudbu jako performer, pedagog a skladatel.
